The current policy at St. George’s Vocational High School should be altered in a way that students should keep cell phones concealed from sight and off or in a locker or backpack. Next, I believe that student’s should have no business with them inside the classroom because you have no idea if somebody was to call you out of the blue or text you. If they were to text you then you would have some motive for texting back while the teacher is unaware of your situation. Although the using the phone’s in the bathroom idea is pretty ironic seeing as though that the school could tap into the phone or locate the number that was activated and in use during that period and find that individual that used it. Lastly, I think that there would be some way of students sneaking around the policy but the policy would always be there.

No, i dont think it is a realistic plan to stop the distraction. This is because students like to talk to their friends. This being, they could atleast text message each other. This is why i think this is not a good idea to ban the use of cell phones during class.

I think that it is not a good idea to band cell phone use in school because What if a parent is trying to call you because of an emergency and they can not reach you. Also parents should be able to text message you during the school day for the same reason. All cell phones are in school are either for you to call your parents incase of an emergency or for you to call them to pick you up after school that day.

I think that banning cell phones is a bad choice to make. The reason why is because there could be an emergency where a student might need to contact a parent right away. If a student is in a current area where there is no phone in site they might need their cell phones to contact someone as soon as they can. I also think that banning cell phones is a bad decision because what if their parents call them for a specific reason and its during class. That call might be an emergency or any other purpose. Students should be allowed to pick up their cell phones and go out into the hallway if its a call from a parent otherwise they should keep their cell phones on vibrate or silent.

I think the ban on cell phone use during the school day is a bad idea because like most teenagers like myself like to break the rules every now and then. plus tennagers like to break rules they think it makes them fell older

Personally, I don’t think the school should ban cell phones. I mean come on, we’re teenagers. Cell phones are pretty much our life here. It’s how we communicate and I am sure that if I had a cell phone then I wouldn’t be able to live without it either. And in case pwer goes out at school or something, and we can not use the phones in the school, then we need our cell phones to call our parents. And like i said before, we are teenagers and our cell phones are pretty much our life. [ =

I think that the ban on cell phone use is bad. It doesnt matter if you ban them kid always break the rules so why make rules like this.

Banning cell phone use during the day is not a realistic method to ensure students are not distracted from learning because even though cell phones can be distracting if they ring in class there are plenty of other possible distractions, for example talking within the classroom, loud hallways, misbehavior in the classroom and noises outside the window.

I dont think banning cellphones in school is a realistic method to ensure students are not distracted from learning, because even if students dont have a cellphone with them they still get distracted or they just dont put attention to what the teacher is saying, it depends in the student if the student wants to put attention it going to put attention even if it has a cellphone infront of them or if it doesnt have a cellphone and doesnt want to put attention it will not put attention, so i dont think they should banned cellphones.

I think you shouldn’t ban cellphone in school because what if a parent wants to get through to the school to tell thier child whta to do because it is an emergency and the lines are busy they have no other choice but to call thier child and tell them what to do and what happened . If there is an emergengy arises at school and there is no one around to see or hesr the student they have no other choice but to use thier cell phone to call the paramedics or a close relatives. I think it is addlebrained(stupid) to suspend a strudent for using the cell phone in the bathroom.

Well I think it’s not a good idea to band cellphone use because yes it may distract others but, we should be able to atleast text message our friends or something else to do besides just sit there. Like maybe a good time to use our cellphone to text would be like after a test or when were not working. Also if someones’s cellphone was going off the teacher shouldn’t take it away, instead they should let the student go into the hallway or bathroom. Besides I know some schools that let you use your cellphone during class and I also think that a student should be able to brake the rule every now and then. Thank you.

I think that if so many of us have cell phones, we should be able to at least have them on during class, to make sure we don’t miss something important. Every once in a while an emergency will crop up and the cell phone may be the only way to contact you immediately.

  • 13    Samantha // Oct 26, 2006 at 5:35 pm

I think this is not agood way to ensure proper learning. I think we should have the right to call our parents and tell them something like our grade before the end of the day, cause we’ll most definetly forget. Also if there is a family emergency you want to know ASAP! And not want some principal or guiandence counsler to tell you your dad was in an accident. Or something like that. I think the ban is not that good of an idea.

  • 14    Marlene // Oct 26, 2006 at 6:12 pm

I think that banning cell phone use during school is a bad idea, because if a student is in school and needs to contact a parent in an emergency well they woundn’t be able. Also since banning cell phones woudn’t make a difference, because the students are stiil going to use there cell phones and ignore the rules.

  • 15    Devonte // Oct 27, 2006 at 8:34 am

I think cell phones should be able to be in school i think this because our parents gave us the phones to call them. Also so the parents keep track of us or if something bad ever happened. Sometimes we need our phone and it may come in use someday or maybe could save someones life. You may think phones are distracting but there not there useful in its own kind of way.

  • 16    jessica // Oct 27, 2006 at 8:37 am

well as much as i love using my phone nd text messaging my friends,
i feel as though that this a realistic way to stop the distraction of cell phones during class.
i feel that if there is an emergancy who ever needs to reach you can just contact the school and the school will let you know.
truthfully i think it is rude that we as students come to school with a job to learn and our teachers have the responsibility of teaching us what we need to kno in order to be ready for the real world, but were not paying attion because we are to busy on our cell phones!

I think that cell phone usage can not have an effect on learning in school. If there was a crisis going on in the building or our homes, us as students will be able to make contact with them. I really do not think it would make a big difference because even if cell phones are banned, students will still text and disobey the rules

  • 19    Marvina // Oct 31, 2006 at 6:08 pm

No,I do not think banning cell phone use during the school day is a relaistic method to ensure students are not disturbed from learning. I think this because a cell phone is a possible learning device depending on the way that it is used. For example, a student may be in one of his/her classes that reqire calculators. If the student does not have their calculator and the teacher does not have any spares, they could simply use their phone to complete their work. This is why I think that you should not ban cell phone use during school.
